Brasserie, French food, Alsatian specialites, seafood, mid-price, elegant atmosphere
Brasserie Bofinger Sit at the front bar and have a drink whilst your table is being organised feeding the French at all hours since 1864 We looked at the menu but didn't really need to - we came for one thing: the oysters White linen, gleaming brass, mirrored walls and a sweeping staircase... Are they really going to let me in here? Yes, at 11:30pm people were still ordering steak The 1906 cupola is the centre-piece of the brasserie and remains in immaculate condition Langoustines, huîtres et crevettes... aka a seafood platter to die for Bofinger is famous for its décor and its Alsatian specialities, yet also for its incredibly fresh seafood Political figure-heads, celebrities, Italian and Australian ring-ins... Yes, they all come to Bofinger to see and make poor attempts at not being seen Ornate details are everywhere When we arrived (sometime after 11pm) the brasserie was packed, yet still refined The oysters were huge, plump and almost meaty - possibly the best I've had in Paris The penguin-clad wait staff ranged from polite to affable, depending on your luck Definitely worth getting your fingers dirty for Ile Flottante... indeed Le Trou Normand (pear glacé with a shot of Calvados) - just the thing after oysters The death-stare of "you finished my drink!"
